Hello dear friends and collaborators,
The distillery family is growing!
I would like to welcome some new members to our team:
Stéphane and Jérémie from _Nature humaine
Ronny from content content
Jonathan from Écomestible
Things are moving on our end, and I’m going to take advantage of this heatwave to enthusiastically update you on the developments from the last few weeks, because we’re making progress on all fronts!
Marketing
Ronny from content-content shot videos at the cabin and on the land with JF, our master distiller! We tasted his whisky, Peter McAuslan Single Malt, and our impressions were captured on camera.
With Michel Olivier, I met two of the four marketing firms we identified to create the initial brand design for the distillery. We will finalize the selection process next week, which means that if all goes well, we’ll have a graphic signature in hand by the end of the summer!
Agriculture
Our farm manager, Gautier, is in Saskatchewan for another three weeks for the seeding season. He continues to work on the project and is shopping for equipment that he will bring back for the harvest!
We also found the additional 100 acres of agricultural land we were looking for! That brings our total to 140 acres. Gautier advised me not to rent anything else, otherwise, we’ll need to find a bigger tractor!
For my part, I went to pick up our ATV—or if you prefer, a good old 4-wheeler—last Thursday. Médérik approves of our vehicle choice!
The equipment dealer gave me an update on the preparation of our KUHN rototiller and seeder. It’s huge!
As for Jonathan from Écomestible, he will contact JF, the master distiller, to select berry bushes to prepare our recipes. Jonathan's landscaping plan will be ready this summer.
Finally, I’m considering the idea of buying a Macalac 6MRC mechanical excavator. It’s an ultra-versatile tool that will help us carry out work on the land and handle our barrels and bags of barley.
Distillery
We are having discussions with Revival and Specifics. JF is getting closer to his goals, and it’s encouraging for what comes next.
Building
We welcomed Nature humaine and the surveyors to our site last Friday to discuss the placement of the buildings. JF is meeting with Nature humaine this week, as they now have the equipment volumes, which will allow them to move forward with the architectural plans.
On my end, I met with the civil engineer to take a look at the design of the road that will lead from Mansonville Road to the distillery. We will have his plans by the end of the summer.
Administration
We are now officially members in good standing of MAPAQ, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food!
Meanwhile, the notary has in his possession all the necessary documents for the application we want to submit to the Agricultural Land Protection Commission (CPTAQ) and to the town of Mansonville. This is a crucial step for the distillery, as we need their approval before starting any land-clearing work.
Our application goes out today, but there will be a delay of 4 to 6 months before we get our answer!
Have a great weekend everyone!
-Martin
